Trump Considers Reducing US Troop Presence in Germany Amid Iran Conflict Tensions

By: The Trek News Desk

US President Donald Trump has indicated that his administration is considering a potential reduction in the number of American troops stationed in Germany, as tensions rise over the ongoing conflict involving Iran and growing friction within NATO allies.

In a social media post on Wednesday (April 29, 2026), Trump said the United States is currently reviewing its military deployment in Germany and that a decision could be made in the near future.

The remarks come amid heightened diplomatic strain following comments by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who suggested that the United States appeared “humiliated” in its confrontation with Iran. Merz also criticised Washington for lacking a clear and coherent strategy in the ongoing conflict.

Trump has repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction with NATO, accusing the alliance of not providing sufficient support for the US-led military campaign against Iran, which has now been ongoing for two months.

The latest statement has added further tension to US-Germany relations, even as both nations remain long-standing key partners within the NATO alliance.
