A high-level bilateral meeting took place between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and United States President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the G7 Summit, where both leaders discussed strengthening India-U.S. relations along with key global issues, including regional stability and international trade.
During the discussions, Prime Minister Modi noted that ties between the two countries have strengthened significantly since their last meeting in Washington. He added that both sides’ teams are working in close coordination to achieve the goals set during earlier engagements.
The Prime Minister highlighted the steady expansion of strategic, economic, and technological cooperation between India and the United States. He expressed confidence that the partnership will continue to broaden in scope, benefiting both nations in the long run.
The two leaders also exchanged views on major global challenges, including energy security, maritime trade routes, and peace in conflict-affected regions.
PM Modi appreciated ongoing efforts aimed at reducing tensions and restoring stability in West Asia. He noted that encouraging developments in the region have created renewed hope for peace, which is crucial for global economic stability.
He emphasised that a peaceful and stable West Asia is essential for ensuring uninterrupted global trade and energy flows.
A key point of discussion was the strategic significance of the Strait of Hormuz. PM Modi underlined that this critical maritime passage plays a vital role in global energy supply chains and international commerce, making its free and secure operation essential.
He reiterated India’s long-standing support for freedom of navigation and stressed the need for collective international efforts to safeguard maritime routes.
The Prime Minister also raised concerns regarding the safety of Indian seafarers working across global shipping routes. He pointed out that thousands of Indian maritime workers are employed worldwide, making their security a matter of top national importance.
He expressed confidence that any future agreements or implementation frameworks would give due priority to protecting Indian seafarers engaged in international maritime trade.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in areas such as economic growth, security, maritime stability, and global peace.
