India sealed a comprehensive 3-0 ODI series victory over Afghanistan after registering a commanding nine-wicket win in the third and final match in Chennai. A superb century from Yashasvi Jaiswal and a clinical bowling performance from Prasidh Krishna helped the hosts finish the series on a high note.
Chasing a modest target of 219, India made light work of the run chase thanks to an outstanding opening partnership between captain Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal. The duo laid a solid foundation that left Afghanistan with little chance of making a comeback.
India’s innings got off to a flying start as Rohit Sharma and Jaiswal dominated the Afghan bowling attack. The opening pair stitched together a remarkable 170-run partnership for the first wicket, effectively taking the game away from the visitors.
Rohit played an attacking knock of 79 runs before departing, while Jaiswal remained composed at the crease and completed a brilliant century. His unbeaten innings guided India to the target with ease and highlighted his growing importance in the team’s batting lineup.
Earlier, Afghanistan endured a difficult start after opting to bat. Indian fast bowler Prasidh Krishna struck early and repeatedly, dismantling the top order and putting the visitors under immediate pressure.
Afghanistan lost four wickets for just 36 runs, leaving them struggling to build momentum. Krishna delivered the best spell of his international career, claiming his maiden five-wicket haul and emerging as the standout performer with the ball.
Despite the early collapse, Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi produced a determined innings to keep his side in the contest. He scored an impressive 102 runs, bringing up his first century in One-Day Internationals.
Shahidi received valuable support from Azmatullah Omarzai, who contributed a half-century as the pair attempted to rebuild the innings. However, regular breakthroughs from the Indian bowlers prevented Afghanistan from posting a challenging total, and the visitors were eventually dismissed for 218 in 44.2 overs.
The series showcased India’s superiority across all departments, with the hosts consistently outperforming Afghanistan in batting, bowling, and fielding. The clean sweep further strengthened India’s momentum in ODI cricket and underlined the depth of talent within the squad.
