In a remarkable show of support for its national football team, Qatar has arranged an all-expenses-paid trip for around 1,000 fans to attend the FIFA World Cup in Canada. The initiative aims to create a strong presence in the stands and boost team morale during one of the sport’s biggest tournaments.
The supporters arrived in Vancouver ahead of Qatar’s crucial match against host nation Canada. Reports indicate that special charter flights were arranged under the patronage of Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, ensuring that fans could travel comfortably to North America for the event.
As part of the program, visiting supporters have been accommodated in several high-end hotels across Vancouver. Travel costs, lodging, local transportation, and other related expenses are being covered through an organised fan-support initiative.
The presence of the Qatari delegation has drawn attention throughout the city, with supporters showcasing elements of their culture through traditional music, drums, and festive gatherings.
Qatar captain Abdulaziz Hatem expressed gratitude to the travelling supporters, acknowledging the effort they made to follow the team across continents.
He emphasised that the players recognise the responsibility that comes with such strong backing and are determined to deliver performances that make their supporters proud.
The initiative is being coordinated through a partnership between Qatar’s Social and Sport Contribution Fund and the country’s football federation. Under the “Qatari Fans Delegation Program,” participants receive comprehensive travel assistance and hospitality benefits.
According to football officials, the objective is to create an energetic matchday atmosphere that can inspire players and contribute positively to the team’s performance on the international stage.
While Qatar’s organised fan contingent is expected to make its presence felt, the team is likely to be outnumbered by home supporters when it takes the field at Vancouver’s BC Place Stadium.
Even so, officials believe that the visible support from travelling fans can provide an important psychological boost during a high-pressure tournament.
With a population of roughly 3.2 million, Qatar is one of the world’s leading exporters of natural gas and oil. The nation gained global attention after hosting the FIFA World Cup in 2022, becoming the first Arab country to stage the tournament.
By bringing a large group of supporters to this year’s competition, Qatar is once again demonstrating its commitment to football and its ambition to strengthen its presence on the global sporting stage.
