Qatar Factory Explosion in Ras Laffan: 13 Dead, Including 12 Indians and a Pakistani

A devastating explosion at an industrial facility in Qatar’s Ras Laffan Industrial City has claimed 13 lives, including 12 Indian nationals, officials confirmed. Several others were injured in the incident and are currently undergoing treatment, with their condition reported to be stable.

The Indian Embassy in Doha stated on Monday that Qatari authorities have confirmed the deaths of 12 Indian citizens. The mission expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy in a post shared on the social media platform X.

According to Qatari authorities, all injured individuals were immediately shifted to nearby medical facilities and are receiving appropriate care. Emergency response teams quickly reached the site and completed necessary rescue and containment operations.

Officials confirmed that the situation at the site has been brought under control.

The Indian Embassy said it is in constant contact with Qatari officials and is extending all possible assistance to affected Indian nationals and their families. It is also assured that efforts are underway to repatriate the mortal remains of the deceased to India at the earliest.

In its initial statement, Qatar’s Ministry of Interior said the explosion was triggered by a technical malfunction during operational activities. The fault led to a blast and subsequent fire at the facility.

Authorities further clarified that emergency services responded immediately, bringing the situation under control and ensuring the timely medical evacuation of the injured.

The ministry also emphasised that no gas leak was detected following the incident and that there is no threat to public safety or the surrounding areas.

Officials said a total of 66 people sustained injuries in the incident, including foreign nationals from several countries. All injured individuals have been admitted to different healthcare facilities for treatment.

A detailed investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the explosion.

Qatar’s Energy Minister Saad bin Sherida Al-Kaabi confirmed that 13 people died in the incident, including workers of Indian and Pakistani origin. He added that the explosion occurred during operational startup activities at the Barzan local gas supply facility.

The Indian Embassy in Doha expressed deep grief over the tragedy and reaffirmed its support for the Qatar authorities and the Indian community during this difficult time.
