A missile struck a helipad located inside the U.S. Embassy compound in Iraq’s capital, Baghdad, according to Iraqi security officials. The incident was confirmed on Saturday (March 14, 2026).
Video footage released by news agencies showed a large plume of smoke rising from the embassy compound, indicating that the missile landed within the heavily secured diplomatic premises.
The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad is considered one of the largest American diplomatic missions in the world. Over the past several years, the complex has frequently been targeted by rocket and drone attacks, often attributed to Iran-backed militia groups operating in the region.
Despite the incident, the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad had not issued an immediate official statement regarding the strike.

Just a day earlier, on Friday (March 13, 2026), the embassy had renewed its Level 4 security alert for Iraq. The advisory warned that Iran and militia groups aligned with Tehran had previously carried out attacks against American citizens, facilities and interests, and such threats could continue in the future.
Security analysts say that incidents like this could further escalate tensions in the Middle East, which has already been witnessing rising instability. So far, there have been no reports of casualties linked to the missile strike.
