Israeli forces have escalated their air campaign in Lebanon, launching a series of strikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut late Monday night and continuing into early Tuesday. The area, widely known as a stronghold of Hezbollah, had seen a relative silence in recent days before the latest attacks.

According to the Israeli military, two Hezbollah operatives were detained during a ground operation in southern Lebanon. Officials stated that the individuals were preparing to launch an anti-tank missile when they were identified by troops. They reportedly surrendered and were subsequently taken into Israeli custody for interrogation.

Earlier, an Israeli airstrike also targeted Hazmieh, an affluent suburb near Beirut predominantly inhabited by Christian communities. The Israeli side claimed the strike was aimed at an individual linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, allegedly involved in overseas operations.

The Israeli military further said it had issued prior evacuation warnings to residents in Beirut’s southern suburbs before carrying out the strikes. It maintained that the operations are focused on dismantling Hezbollah’s infrastructure and positions in the area.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah claimed it carried out more than 50 retaliatory attacks on Israeli military sites and personnel across northern Israel and southern Lebanon. Among the targeted locations was the coastal border town of Naqura.

In a further escalation, Israeli authorities early Tuesday issued fresh evacuation alerts for two coastal towns near the southern Lebanese city of Tyre, signalling the possibility of continued military action.
