In a pointed address at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Tuesday, US President Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on China, India, and NATO countries, accusing them of being the primary financiers of Russia’s war in Ukraine by continuing to purchase Russian oil and energy resources.
China, India Under Fire for ‘Funding the War’
Trump wasted no time in calling out China and India for their economic dealings with Russia, stating that both nations were the “main funders” of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. He argued that by purchasing Russian oil, these countries were directly contributing to the bloodshed.
“China and India are the primary funders of the ongoing war by continuing to purchase Russian oil,” Trump told world leaders. “But even more inexcusable is the failure of NATO countries to cut off Russian energy imports, which I only found out about recently, and frankly, I wasn’t happy with it. They are funding the war against themselves. Who has ever heard of such a thing?”

Tariff Threat to End the War
Trump also laid down a bold threat to Russia, saying that if Moscow was unwilling to negotiate a peace deal, the United States was fully prepared to impose severe tariffs on Russian imports. According to Trump, such sanctions would be effective in stopping the violence.
“We are ready to impose a very strong round of powerful tariffs, which I believe will stop the bloodshed very quickly,” Trump stated, urging European allies to join the US in this course of action for maximum impact.
Economic Triumphs & Border Security
Turning to domestic affairs, Trump touted the economic success of the United States under his administration. He highlighted what he called “the largest tax cuts in American history,” the strengthening of the stock market, and rising wages.
“Just a year ago, America was in deep trouble, but today we are the hottest country on the planet,” Trump said. “We are blessed with the strongest economy, the strongest borders, and the best military.”
Regarding border security, Trump made a bold claim about the reduction in illegal immigration, stating, “For the last four months, the number of illegal aliens entering our country has been zero.” He added, “Our message is simple: if you come illegally to the US, you are going to jail.”
Claim of Ending Wars: A Controversial Statement
The US President also took credit for what he described as his efforts to end global conflicts. He claimed that his administration had ended seven wars, citing various international disputes including tensions between Israel and Iran, Pakistan and India, and Armenia and Azerbaijan.
“No other president has ever done anything close to that,” he boasted during his speech, a statement that may raise eyebrows given the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and Eastern Europe.
Trump Critiques the United Nations
On the international stage, Trump did not hold back in his criticism of the United Nations. He argued that the UN had failed to live up to its full potential in resolving global crises and addressing international conflicts.
“The UN is not living up to its potential. It has been limited to nothing more than empty words when it comes to war and conflict resolution,” Trump said. He also recalled his earlier attempt to remodel the UN headquarters in New York, which was rejected.
Trump’s speech at the UNGA was a mix of defiant rhetoric and calls for bold action. By laying blame on China, India, and NATO for their role in funding Russia’s war through continued energy imports, and threatening punitive tariffs on Moscow, he reinforced his stance of “America First” and his commitment to confronting international crises with strong, unilateral actions. Whether his proposals will gain traction on the global stage remains to be seen. Still, his speech at the UN will certainly stir debate in both domestic and international political circles.
