PM Modi to Meet UK PM Keir Starmer in Mumbai, Inaugurate Key Infrastructure Projects

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to meet UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on October 9, 2025, during his two-day visit to Maharashtra. The meeting aims to strengthen bilateral relations and explore new trade and investment opportunities between the two countries. Additionally, PM Modi will inaugurate several major infrastructure projects, including the first phase of the Navi Mumbai International Airport and Phase 1 of the Mumbai Metro line 3.

Strengthening India-UK Strategic Partnership

The upcoming discussions between PM Modi and PM Starmer will focus on enhancing the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Under the “Vision 2035” framework, both leaders will delve into critical areas like trade, investment, technology, defence, security, climate change, healthcare, education, and people-to-people relations. A key topic on the agenda is the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), aimed at boosting economic ties between the two nations.

Global Fintech Fest 2025 in Mumbai

In parallel with the bilateral talks, the 2025 edition of the Global Fintech Fest will be held in Mumbai. This global event will bring together 7,500 companies, 800 industry experts, 400 exhibitors, and 70 regulators from around the world. With the theme “Empowering Finance for a Better World,” the festival will focus on leveraging AI, augmented intelligence, innovation, and inclusion to create a more ethical and sustainable financial ecosystem. The event is expected to attract over 100,000 participants from more than 75 countries.

Inauguration of Navi Mumbai International Airport

On October 8, PM Modi will inaugurate the first phase of the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), a landmark project in India’s aviation infrastructure. With a cost of approximately ₹19,650 crore, the airport is poised to become the largest greenfield airport project in India, covering an area of 1,160 hectares. The facility will have a capacity to handle 90 million passengers and 3.25 million metric tonnes of cargo annually. One of its key features is the Automated People Mover (APM) system, which will connect all terminals for seamless passenger transfers.

Mumbai Metro-3 Phase 2B Launch

In another significant move, PM Modi will inaugurate Phase 2B of the Mumbai Metro-3 project. This metro line, which stretches across 33.5 kilometres and connects key cultural and financial hubs of South Mumbai, is designed to serve 1.3 million passengers daily. The project is valued at ₹37,270 crore and will provide much-needed connectivity to important areas like Fort, Kala Ghoda, Marine Drive, and Nariman Point.

Additional Key Project Inaugurations

During his visit, PM Modi will also launch the Mumbai One Mobility App, aimed at improving public transport services in the city. Furthermore, he will inaugurate the Short-Term Employability Program (STEP), an initiative by the Ministry of Skill Development, aimed at enhancing job opportunities for youth by improving their skills and employability.

PM Modi’s visit marks a significant milestone in deepening India-UK ties, particularly in areas of trade, investment, and infrastructure. The inauguration of these projects will not only transform Mumbai’s urban landscape but also contribute to India’s broader development goals, signalling a major push for growth and modernization across sectors.
