In a major boost to the state’s public transportation network, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay on Thursday inaugurated 300 newly acquired diesel and CNG buses aimed at improving commuter services across the state. The launch ceremony was held in Chennai, where the Chief Minister officially flagged off the new fleet.

The addition of these buses is expected to strengthen the operations of state-run transport corporations and enhance travel facilities for passengers in both urban and rural regions. Officials believe the move will help meet rising transportation demands while improving accessibility across key routes.

Following the inauguration, Chief Minister Joseph Vijay boarded one of the newly introduced buses and interacted with passengers as well as transport department officials. The symbolic ride reflected the government’s focus on upgrading public transport infrastructure and ensuring a better travel experience for citizens.

During the visit, the Chief Minister reviewed the onboard facilities and highlighted the importance of modern, reliable, and passenger-friendly transport services in supporting the state’s development.

According to transport department officials, the newly inducted buses come equipped with enhanced safety and comfort features designed to provide a smoother journey for commuters. The inclusion of both diesel and compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles is intended to expand fleet capacity while encouraging more efficient and environmentally responsible transportation.

The new buses are expected to improve operational efficiency and support the state’s long-term mobility goals.

The launch forms part of the Tamil Nadu government’s broader strategy to strengthen public transportation infrastructure and improve connectivity across the state. Authorities expect the new fleet to ease pressure on existing services and provide better access to remote and underserved areas.

Transport officials also anticipate that the deployment of the additional buses will increase service frequency on major routes, reduce overcrowding, and offer more convenient travel options for millions of daily commuters.

With the expansion of its bus network, the state government aims to deliver a more reliable, efficient, and accessible public transport system for residents throughout Tamil Nadu.
