A tragic railway accident in Indonesia has resulted in the deaths of 14 people, while 84 others have been reported injured after two trains collided in the Bekasi region of West Java. Authorities have launched an immediate investigation as rescue operations continue at the site.
According to local officials, the collision caused severe damage to multiple train coaches, leaving several passengers trapped inside the wreckage. Emergency response teams are working continuously to rescue those still stuck and provide medical assistance to the injured.
Meanwhile, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto visited a hospital in Bekasi on Tuesday morning to meet the victims. He expressed condolences to the families affected and assured them that the government would carry out a swift and transparent investigation into the incident.
The President also highlighted concerns over the condition of the country’s railway infrastructure, noting that several sections suffer from inadequate maintenance. He mentioned plans to construct a flyover near the railway tracks to help ease traffic congestion in the area.
Authorities are currently examining the cause of the crash, with early indications pointing towards maintenance issues and possible technical faults. The incident has raised serious concerns about rail safety standards and infrastructure management across the country.
