Under the guidance of Principal Prof. Nivedita Malik, postgraduate students from the Department of Chemistry at Raghunath Girls Post Graduate College (RGP), Meerut, participated in a one-day “Workshop cum Training Experiential Learning Session” held at MMH College, Ghaziabad. The academic trip aimed to provide hands-on learning about the detection of adulteration in common food items.

The workshop was organised jointly by the Department of Chemistry, MMH College, and the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh. Its theme, “Identification of Adulteration in Common Food Products,” focused on practical demonstrations of food testing techniques and creating awareness about the health hazards caused by adulterated foods.

During the session, experts highlighted how adulteration in everyday items, such as soap powder and urea in milk, can lead to food poisoning and cardiac diseases. Similarly, spices, oils, ghee, and black pepper often contain artificial colours, dust, and fake seeds, which can result in liver disorders, digestive issues, anaemia, and even cancer.

The students, led by Dr Renu Chaudhary (Head, Chemistry Department), along with Assistant Professors Dr Sheetal Pandey and Diksha Singh, actively participated in food sample testing and engaged in discussions with the experts. The interactive training not only enhanced their practical understanding of food chemistry but also underscored the importance of consumer awareness and safety in daily life.

Through this experiential learning initiative, RGP College continues to promote scientific curiosity and social responsibility among its students, preparing them to contribute to a healthier, more informed society.
