Shah Rukh Khan Receives First National Honour After 30 Years at 71st National Film Awards 2025

The 71st National Film Awards ceremony held today at Vigyan Bhawan witnessed a historic moment as President Draupadi Murmu honoured some of Indian cinema’s finest, including Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Mohanlal, Vikrant Massey, Karan Johar, Vaibhavi Merchant, and Ronnie Screwvala. The event, which began at 4 PM, was particularly special for Shah Rukh Khan, who received his first-ever national award after a distinguished career spanning over three decades.

Shah Rukh Khan was jointly awarded the Best Actor accolade for his outstanding performance in the blockbuster film Jawan, sharing the honour with Vikrant Massey for his role in 12th Fail. Rani Mukerji was recognised as Best Actress for her powerful portrayal in the film Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway.

The highest honour of the evening, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, was presented to veteran Malayalam actor Mohanlal, celebrating his four decades of exemplary contribution to Indian cinema. Last year, the prestigious award was conferred upon Mithun Chakraborty.

12th Fail, produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, took home the award for Best Feature Film, praised for its impactful storytelling and resonating message. The Best Director award went to Sudipto Sen for The Kerala Story. Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani was honoured with the award for Best Feature Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. Additionally, Sam Bahadur received the award for Best Film Promoting National and Social Values.

The ceremony was a grand celebration of the diversity and richness of Indian cinema, honouring the creative talents behind some of the year’s most remarkable films. The presence of prominent figures from Bollywood and Malayalam cinema added to the vibrant atmosphere of the event.
