A major security scare unfolded during a high-profile dinner event in the US capital after a man was arrested for allegedly attempting to attack US President Donald Trump. The incident has prompted authorities to initiate a comprehensive review of security arrangements at the White House.

According to officials, the accused, identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen from California, was produced in a Washington court on Monday. He faces charges related to attempted assassination of the President as well as two counts of illegal possession of firearms. During the hearing, Allen did not enter any plea.

Investigators revealed that the suspect attempted to breach security at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, pushing past a checkpoint. He was reportedly carrying a semi-automatic handgun, a pump-action shotgun, and three knives at the time of the incident. The incident took place at a hotel venue, where a Secret Service agent sustained a gunshot injury, though officials confirmed it was not life-threatening.

During his court appearance, Allen appeared calm and composed. Dressed in a blue prison uniform, he responded quietly to most of the judge’s questions with brief answers such as “yes, your honour” or “no, your honour.” He also confirmed his age and stated that he holds a master’s degree.

If convicted, the accused could face life imprisonment. Meanwhile, security agencies are reassessing existing protocols to prevent such breaches in the future and ensure tighter protection at high-profile government events.
