Pope Leo XIV Urges US and Iran to Resume Talks Amid Rising Tensions

By: The Trek News Desk

Pope Leo has once again commented on the ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States while returning to Rome after completing a multi-nation visit across Africa. He called on both countries to return to diplomatic discussions and seek a peaceful resolution to their differences.

Speaking to journalists aboard the return flight, the pontiff expressed concern over the suspension of negotiations between Tehran and Washington, especially as no new round of talks has been scheduled so far.

His remarks come shortly after US President Donald Trump criticised the Pope’s earlier comments, accusing him of speaking about the conflict while not sufficiently addressing the deaths of protesters in Iran.

During the in-flight press interaction on Thursday, Pope Leo stated that when any government makes decisions that lead to the unjust loss of innocent lives, such actions must be clearly condemned.

His statement is being viewed as a renewed moral appeal for restraint and dialogue, emphasising the importance of diplomacy in addressing escalating global tensions.
