A passenger aboard an Akasa Air flight from Delhi to Goa has landed in legal trouble after allegedly smoking a beedi inside the aircraft lavatory, violating aviation safety regulations.
According to officials, the incident took place on Saturday, March 7, 2026, when Ashish, a resident of Delhi, was travelling on Akasa Air flight QP1625 from the national capital to Goa.
As per the complaint filed by the airline, the passenger reportedly smoked a beedi inside the plane’s restroom during the flight. During the inquiry, authorities also discovered that he was carrying a lighter, which is considered a potential safety hazard on board an aircraft.
Police stated that smoking inside an aircraft is strictly prohibited, as such actions can pose serious risks to the safety of passengers as well as the cabin crew.
Following the incident, a case was registered against the passenger at the Mopa Airport Police Station in Goa under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against Safety of Civil Aviation Act. Officials confirmed that further investigation into the matter is currently underway.

Meanwhile, Akasa Air also acknowledged the incident. In an official statement, the airline said that a passenger on flight QP1625 from Delhi to Goa on March 7 was found smoking inside the aircraft lavatory.
The airline added that its cabin crew followed the standard safety protocols and handed over the passenger to the concerned authorities after the aircraft landed in Goa. Akasa Air also stated that it is fully cooperating with the authorities during the investigation.
