Paris witnessed panic during the busy year-end period after a series of knife attacks targeted women inside the city’s metro system. French police on Friday arrested a 25-year-old man accused of stabbing three women at separate stations along the same metro line.

According to prosecution officials, the attacks occurred on Metro Line 3, which runs through central Paris. The public transport authority RATP stated that the incidents happened near the République, Arts et Métiers, and Opéra stations, areas close to the popular and crowded Marais district.

Eyewitnesses reported that at République station, one of the injured women had sustained a leg wound and appeared visibly shaken. Security personnel provided immediate first aid at the scene. Police confirmed that two victims were rushed to the hospital by emergency services, while a third woman later arrived at a hospital on her own for treatment. All three are reported to be in stable condition.

Using surveillance camera footage and mobile phone location tracking, police were able to identify and trace the suspect. He was arrested in the Val-d’Oise area, north of Paris, at around 6:55 pm, less than three hours after the first reported attack.

Paris police officials praised the swift response and coordination of investigative teams that led to the quick arrest. The Interior Ministry also commended the efforts of multiple security agencies involved in the operation. Following the incidents, additional security forces were deployed along the affected metro line to reassure commuters and enhance safety.

Transport police have launched an investigation into attempted homicide and assault with a weapon. Authorities noted that European cities remain on high alert during the holiday season due to large public gatherings and increased security risks.

France’s Interior Ministry has recently instructed officials nationwide to strengthen security measures, particularly on public transport networks, citing elevated threat levels and the need for maximum vigilance.
