In the wake of a devastating fire that claimed 25 lives at a North Goa nightclub, the district administration has imposed a comprehensive ban on fireworks and pyrotechnic displays across all major tourist establishments. The move aims to strengthen public safety and prevent similar incidents in the future.
According to an order issued on December 10, 2025, the ban covers nightclubs, bars, restaurants, hotels, guesthouses, resorts, beach shacks, temporary structures, event venues and entertainment spaces throughout North Goa. The directive, enforced under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, prohibits the use of fireworks, sparklers, pyrotechnic effects, flame-thrower devices, smoke generators, or any other fire- or smoke-producing equipment inside tourist facilities.
Officials stated that the decision was prompted by the December 6 incident at Birch by Romeo Lane, a nightclub in Arpora, where “electric firecrackers” allegedly triggered a fast-spreading blaze. The fire broke out around midnight and turned fatal within minutes, raising serious concerns over safety protocols within indoor entertainment venues.

With pyrotechnic shows becoming increasingly common in Goa’s nightlife scene, authorities noted a growing need for stricter safety oversight. The new order emphasises that any violation will attract stern action, as ensuring visitor safety remains the administration’s top priority.
The decision is expected to bring major operational changes to the tourism sector, particularly venues known for high-energy entertainment events. Officials also announced plans to intensify safety audits and monitor compliance across all establishments.
