Bihar Assembly Election 2025: Voting Underway in 121 Seats, Tejashwi Yadav, Samrat Choudhary Among Key Contenders

By: The Trek News Desk

The first phase of the Bihar Assembly Election 2025 began this morning at 7 AM, marking the start of a politically charged battle across 121 constituencies. Around 3.75 crore voters are expected to decide the fate of 1,314 candidates in this crucial phase. Among the top contenders are RJD leader and INDIA bloc’s chief ministerial face Tejashwi Yadav, and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary from the BJP.

Key Contests to Watch

This phase features several high-profile clashes that could shape Bihar’s political direction. In Raghopur, Tejashwi Yadav is eyeing a third consecutive victory as he faces off against Satish Kumar of the BJP and Chanchal Kumar from the Jan Suraaj Party (JSP). The seat, considered Yadav’s stronghold, remains a prestige battle for the RJD leader.

In Tarapur (Munger district), BJP’s Samrat Choudhary is locked in a fierce contest with RJD’s Arun Shah. Political observers see this seat as a critical test for Choudhary’s leadership within the NDA and his growing influence in state politics.

Tej Pratap Yadav’s Solo Fight

Meanwhile, former minister and Tejashwi’s elder brother, Tej Pratap Yadav, is contesting from the Mahua constituency in Vaishali district. Once a stronghold for the Yadav family, Mahua now poses a challenge for Tej Pratap as he faces a three-way battle against RJD’s sitting MLA Mukesh Kumar Raushan and LJP’s Sanjay Singh. With internal family rifts adding to the tension, this race is being closely watched as a test of his political relevance.

Election Environment and Voter Setup

The Election Commission has deployed heavy security across all polling booths to ensure smooth and fair voting. This election comes right after a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, resulting in a total of 7.24 crore registered voters in the state, nearly 60 lakhs fewer than before the revision.

Polling will continue until 5 PM, and officials are expecting a strong voter turnout in the first phase, signalling high public engagement in what is shaping up to be one of Bihar’s most competitive elections in recent years.

Counting and Results

Vote counting for all phases will take place on November 14, when the outcome will determine whether the INDIA bloc can unseat the NDA or if Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s alliance retains control.

As Bihar heads deeper into the election season, the first phase has already set the tone for a mix of high-stakes contests, family rivalries, and shifting political equations that could redefine the state’s political landscape.
