In a shocking escalation of violence, Kap’s Café, owned by renowned Indian comedian Kapil Sharma, came under gunfire once again in the early hours of Thursday, marking the third shooting attack on the establishment since July. The incident occurred around 4:30 AM local time at the intersection of 120 Street and 85 Avenue in Surrey, British Columbia.
According to the Surrey Police Service (SPS), multiple bullet holes were found on the café’s windows and exterior walls. Social media videos from the scene show muzzle flashes coming from a speeding vehicle and the sound of glass shattering as bullets struck the storefront. The café was closed at the time, and no injuries were reported.
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang, a criminal group already designated as a terrorist organisation in Canada, has allegedly claimed responsibility for the attack via a social media post. However, authorities have yet to confirm the validity of the claim and say investigations are ongoing.
Previous Attacks Under Investigation
This is not the first time Kap’s Café has been targeted. The establishment had previously been attacked twice, once on July 10, shortly after its grand opening, and again on August 7. Both incidents involved drive-by shootings. The latest strike has only intensified fears of escalating gang violence in the South Asian community of Surrey.

Café Team: “We Will Not Be Intimidated”
Following Thursday’s attack, the café’s management released a defiant message on Instagram, stating:
“This is a shock to us, but we refuse to back down. Violence will not silence our spirit or our community.”
Kap’s Café, known for its Indian-Canadian fusion menu, had just reopened on October 2 after extensive repairs and upgraded security measures were put in place following the earlier attacks.
Officials Condemn Violence, Urge Public Help
Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke strongly condemned the attack and expressed support for local businesses:
“Our city will not be cowed by reckless violence. We stand in solidarity with small business owners and demand swift justice.”
The SPS has urged the public to come forward with any dashcam footage or tips that may help identify the attackers. Investigators are exploring all angles, including links to Khalistani separatist groups or extortion rackets operating in the region.

Lawrence Bishnoi Gang Already Labelled a Terror Outfit
In September 2025, Canada’s Public Safety Minister, Gary Anandasangaree, formally designated the Lawrence Bishnoi gang as a terrorist organisation under the Canadian Criminal Code. The gang is notorious for its violent activities in both Canada and India, with a growing footprint in organised crime.
Growing Global Concern Over Gang Activity in Surrey
This series of attacks has put Surrey’s gang-related issues under the international spotlight. With a large Punjabi diaspora and high-profile businesses like Kapil Sharma’s café being repeatedly targeted, concerns are mounting over public safety and the reach of transnational criminal networks.
As investigations unfold, local authorities continue to face mounting pressure to restore order and prevent further attacks.
