Amid rapidly intensifying military tensions in West Asia, the United States has issued a strong travel alert urging its citizens to leave 15 countries in the region without delay. The United States Department of State advised Americans to use available commercial transportation and depart immediately, citing growing security threats and an unpredictable environment.
According to the department, the decision comes as the regional situation continues to deteriorate. Mora Namdar, Assistant Secretary for Consular Affairs, emphasised that the safety of U.S. nationals remains the government’s highest priority. She noted that conditions on the ground are evolving quickly, prompting the department to upgrade travel advisories for multiple countries to a “Do Not Travel” status.
The advisory applies to Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Syria, and Yemen. Heightened caution has also been advised for the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
In a related development, the U.S. Embassy in Amman temporarily relocated its personnel following what officials described as a credible security threat. The U.S. administration has also activated an interagency emergency task force to coordinate its response and monitor unfolding events across the region.
The tensions follow recent joint strikes by U.S. and Israeli forces on multiple targets inside Iran. Reports indicate that several senior Iranian officials were killed in the attacks, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In retaliation, Tehran launched counterstrikes against U.S. and Israeli positions, pushing the region closer to full-scale conflict.
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the confrontation was initially expected to last four to five weeks but warned that it could extend further depending on developments. The escalating hostilities have already rattled global energy markets. Iranian officials have threatened action against vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, a vital corridor for the world’s oil shipments, triggering a surge in crude prices.
Meanwhile, Secretary of State Marco Rubio signalled that the Treasury and Energy Departments are preparing measures to counter rising fuel costs and stabilise markets. He said the administration had anticipated potential disruptions and is ready to implement strategies aimed at minimising economic fallout.
As West Asia faces mounting instability, Washington’s latest advisory underscores the seriousness of the unfolding crisis. The international community continues to watch closely as the conflict’s trajectory and its broader global impact remain uncertain.
