U.S. President Donald Trump has extended his congratulations to diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu on being appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, wishing him success in his new role.
In a post shared on Truth Social on Friday (April 17, 2026), Trump welcomed Sandhu’s appointment and described him as a seasoned diplomat who has played an important role in strengthening India-U.S. relations over the years.
He also expressed confidence that Sandhu would contribute to the development of Delhi while further enhancing India’s global partnerships.
Sandhu previously served as India’s Ambassador to the United States from 2020 to 2024, during which he was credited with deepening diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
According to official details, he was appointed as Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor on March 5. After retiring from the Indian Foreign Service, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party and later contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Amritsar, where he was unsuccessful.
