T20 World Cup 2026: Scotland Replaces Bangladesh, ICC Confirms

By: The Trek News Desk

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed that Scotland will replace Bangladesh in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 after the Bangladeshi team declined to travel to India, citing security concerns.

Sources said the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) was formally informed that it had been withdrawn from the tournament after failing to provide a clear response within the stipulated deadline regarding participation in India. Senior ICC officials, including chairman Jay Shah, were in Dubai on Friday (January 23, 2026), and an email conveying the decision was sent later that evening to BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul.

According to an ICC source, Bangladesh was given a 24-hour window to confirm its travel plans, but the absence of an official response prompted the global body to name Scotland as the replacement team. The source added that holding a press conference in Dhaka before officially communicating with the ICC was viewed as a breach of protocol.

It has also been reported that Bangladesh’s Sports Ministry adviser Asif Nazrul advised against travelling to India due to security concerns, despite repeated assurances from the ICC regarding safety arrangements.

While Cricket Scotland has indicated that it is yet to receive formal confirmation, officials suggest it is only a matter of time before the decision is officially communicated.

As per the revised schedule, Scotland will play its group-stage matches against West Indies on February 7, Italy on February 9, and England on February 14 in Kolkata. The team will then face Nepal in its final group match in Mumbai on February 17.
