Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday held a telephonic conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during which the two leaders exchanged New Year greetings and discussed ways to further strengthen the strategic partnership between India and Israel.
Sharing details of the interaction on social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi said he was pleased to speak with his “friend” Prime Minister Netanyahu and convey his best wishes for the New Year to him and the people of Israel. He noted that the discussions focused on expanding bilateral cooperation and taking the India-Israel strategic relationship to greater heights in the coming period.
During the conversation, both leaders also reviewed the regional situation and reiterated their shared commitment to combating terrorism with renewed determination. Prime Minister Modi underlined that India and Israel continue to follow a zero-tolerance approach towards terrorism in all its forms.
It may be recalled that earlier, on December 10, Prime Minister Netanyahu had reached out to Prime Minister Modi to brief him on the prevailing situation in West Asia. Following that interaction, the Prime Minister’s Office had stated that India reaffirmed its support for efforts aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace in the region, including the early implementation of the Gaza Peace Plan.
Prime Minister Netanyahu has also indicated recently that a meeting between the two leaders is expected in the near future. Subsequently, on December 16, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar visited Israel and met Prime Minister Netanyahu. The two leaders discussed enhancing cooperation across key sectors such as technology, economy, connectivity and security, while expressing confidence that the bilateral strategic partnership would continue to grow stronger.
Observers view the sustained high-level engagements between New Delhi and Tel Aviv as a reflection of the deepening trust and expanding scope of the India-Israel relationship.
