Pahalgam Terror Attack Case: NIA to File Chargesheet Today

By: The Trek News Desk

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is set to file its chargesheet on December 15 before a special NIA court in Jammu in connection with the deadly Pahalgam terror attack. Officials said the attack claimed the lives of 26 people, most of them tourists, and investigations have established links to Pakistan-based terrorist operatives.

According to the NIA, three terrorists were directly involved in carrying out the April 22 attack. The assailants were identified as Pakistani nationals associated with the banned terror organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). All three were subsequently neutralised by Indian security forces during an encounter in July.

Earlier, in June, the agency arrested two residents for allegedly providing shelter and logistical support to the terrorists. The accused were identified as Parvaiz Ahmad Jothar from Batkote and Bashir Ahmad Jothar from Pahalgam. During interrogation, both men revealed crucial details about the attackers and their operational network.

Investigators said the arrested individuals helped the terrorists with food, accommodation, and other forms of assistance. After carrying out the attack, the militants reportedly went into hiding in the Dachigam-Harwan forest area on the outskirts of Srinagar.

On July 28, the three LeT terrorists were killed in a security operation codenamed Operation Mahadev, carried out near Srinagar. The encounter was described by officials as a significant breakthrough in the case.

Following the Pahalgam attack, Indian armed forces also launched retaliatory precision strikes on May 7 targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation, named Operation Sindoor, targeted nine locations, including key training camps and headquarters of Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, which were allegedly used to plan and coordinate attacks against India.

NIA officials said the filing of the chargesheet will accelerate judicial proceedings and strengthen efforts to ensure justice for the victims while exposing the wider terror support network involved in the attack.
