Indian Embassy in Tehran Issues Advisory, Urges Nationals to Leave Iran Amid Unrest

By: The Trek News Desk

Amid renewed anti-government protests in Iran, the Embassy of India in Tehran has advised Indian nationals to leave the country at the earliest opportunity. In an advisory issued on Monday, the mission urged students, pilgrims, businesspersons, and tourists to depart Iran using available commercial flights or other transport options.

The Embassy has asked Indian citizens to keep their passports, visas, and other travel and identity documents readily accessible at all times. Nationals requiring assistance have been encouraged to immediately get in touch with the Indian mission in Tehran.

The latest advisory follows earlier warnings issued in January 2026 by the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy. On January 5, the MEA had recommended that Indian nationals avoid non-essential travel to Iran as protests intensified across various parts of the country.

Recent days have witnessed fresh demonstrations led by students at several Iranian universities, with some protests escalating into clashes. The situation has been further complicated by heightened tensions between Iran and the United States over a potential nuclear agreement. Reports indicate increased U.S. military activity in the region, while Iranian authorities have warned of retaliatory measures against American interests in West Asia in case of any attack. At the same time, Iranian officials have expressed hope for progress in talks scheduled to resume on February 26, 2026.

The advisory reiterates that all Indian citizens and Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) should exercise caution, avoid protest sites and crowded areas, closely follow local media updates, and remain in regular contact with the Embassy.

For emergencies, the Embassy has shared the following helpline numbers:
+989128109115
+989128109109
+989128109102
+989932179359

Email assistance is available at: cons.tehran@mea.gov.in

The Embassy has assured the Indian community that it is closely monitoring developments and that the safety and well-being of Indian nationals remain its highest priority.
