Amid escalating tensions across West Asia, a drone attack targeted Oman’s key commercial port in Duqm on Tuesday, damaging a fuel storage facility. According to state media, multiple drones were launched toward the port’s fuel tanks, with one successfully striking a storage unit. Authorities confirmed that the situation was swiftly brought under control, with no casualties reported.
The Oman News Agency, citing security sources, reported that emergency teams had contained the fire and limited the damage to a restricted area within the port. Officials emphasised that neither port workers nor civilians were harmed in the incident.
This marks the second attack on the Duqm port within three days. On March 1, two drones targeted the same facility. One drone hit a residential building housing workers, while debris from the second landed near fuel storage tanks. That earlier strike left one worker injured.
Tensions further intensified on Monday when an oil tanker was attacked off the coast of Muscat. The assault triggered an explosion and fire in the vessel’s engine room, resulting in the death of one crew member, an Indian national. Authorities confirmed that the blast originated in the ship’s main engine compartment.

The recent wave of attacks comes amid heightened regional instability following U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran. In response, Tehran has expanded its operations across the Gulf, targeting strategic locations. Oman, which had recently played a mediating role in discussions between Washington and Tehran, has appealed for an immediate ceasefire to prevent further escalation.
Repeated strikes on Duqm port have raised fresh concerns about maritime security and energy infrastructure in the Gulf region. Analysts warn that continued instability could disrupt vital oil supplies and commercial shipping routes. Omani authorities have indicated that security measures have been reinforced, while developments are being closely monitored.
