Uttar Pradesh SIR Draft Electoral Roll to Be Released in January After Another Extension

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh has been extended once again, with the Election Commission of India (ECI) announcing a revised timeline for the process. According to the updated schedule, the draft voters’ list will now be published on January 6, 2026, while the final electoral roll is set to be released on March 6, 2026.

Earlier, the draft list was scheduled to be issued on December 31, 2025, following an initial rescheduling. However, the Election Commission announced the latest change just a day before the previously fixed date, pushing the process further into the new year.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa said that under the new programme, claims and objections from voters will be accepted between January 6 and February 6, 2026. During this period, notices will be issued, objections will be examined, and decisions on enumeration forms will be taken. This exercise will continue until February 27.

After the completion of all verifications and the disposal of claims and objections, the final electoral roll for the state will be published on March 6, 2026, the Chief Electoral Officer confirmed.

It is worth noting that the Election Commission had initially planned to release the draft electoral roll-on December 26. The schedule was later revised not only for Uttar Pradesh but also for several other states, including Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, as well as the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The Election Commission of India began the enumeration phase of the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls on November 4, 2025, across 12 states and Union Territories, including Uttar Pradesh. The exercise aims to ensure that voter lists are accurate, transparent, and fully updated ahead of future elections.
