U.S. President Donald Trump has called for an investigation into what he claims was “sabotage” during his visit to the United Nations (UN) on Tuesday. In a post on his social media platform, Trump stated that he faced three separate incidents, all of which he labeled as “sabotage.”

Accusations of Escalator Malfunction
Trump described an incident where the escalator leading to the UN’s main speaking floor abruptly stopped. According to Trump, both he and his wife, Melania, were at risk of falling, but fortunately, they were holding the handrail and managed to avoid injury.

Trump referred to the incident as “sabotage,” citing an article mentioning that some UN employees had joked about shutting off the escalator beforehand. He expressed his displeasure and called for a thorough investigation and accountability for those responsible.

Teleprompter Issue
In addition to the escalator malfunction, Trump claimed that the teleprompter malfunctioned at the start of his speech, causing an interruption. Furthermore, he alleged that the sound was turned off in the General Assembly Hall during his speech.

Trump referred to these technical failures as part of a “conspiracy,” accusing those involved of deliberately undermining his address.

UN’s Explanation
The UN responded to the escalator incident, stating that a safety mechanism caused it. According to a UN statement, the escalator’s safety system was triggered when a videographer, who was filming, stood backward on the escalator.

The technical team promptly resolved the issue, and the escalator was operational again soon.

Demand for Security Footage
Trump further demanded that all security footage be preserved, especially footage related to the emergency stop button. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also commented on the matter, stating that if someone intentionally stopped the escalator while the President and First Lady were stepping on, they should be immediately fired and investigated.

UN’s Response on Audio and Teleprompter Issues
The UN did not provide a detailed explanation regarding the teleprompter or the audio issue during Trump’s speech, but reiterated that the escalator’s stoppage was due to a safety feature.

UN officials asserted that they are conducting a full investigation into the matter and denied any claims of “foul play.”

Trump’s Reaction
Despite the technical glitches, Trump made light of the situation, suggesting that these problems may have actually made his speech more interesting.

However, he was clear in his belief that these events were part of a deliberate attempt to sabotage his appearance.

Following the incidents, Trump and his team have expressed concern over the ongoing investigation at the UN, and it remains to be seen whether any new details will emerge regarding the matter.
