The military confrontation between Pakistan and Afghanistan appears to be escalating, with Islamabad asserting that it has inflicted heavy losses on Afghan Taliban forces. Pakistani officials claim that close to 300 Taliban fighters and affiliated militants have been killed so far in an ongoing cross-border operation targeting militant positions.
Providing a late-night briefing, Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar stated that security forces had eliminated 297 fighters linked to the Afghan Taliban. In contrast, more than 450 others were injured during the campaign. He said that under “Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq,” Pakistani forces destroyed 89 Taliban positions and seized control of 18 additional posts. The operation also reportedly led to the destruction of around 135 tanks and armoured vehicles. Furthermore, Pakistan’s air force conducted precision strikes at 29 separate locations inside Afghan territory.
Amid the growing hostilities, U.S. President Donald Trump reacted to the developments, saying he maintains very strong ties with Pakistan. When asked whether he would step in to de-escalate the conflict, Trump responded that he respects Pakistan’s leadership. He praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir, describing them as capable leaders.

Meanwhile, fresh explosions were reported in eastern Afghanistan. Two powerful blasts were heard in Jalalabad on Saturday morning, with reports indicating that a fighter jet was heard overhead shortly before the explosions. The blasts were said to have occurred near the city’s airport. Jalalabad lies on a key highway connecting Kabul to the Pakistani border, making it a strategically important location.
With airstrikes and military operations continuing on both sides, tensions between the two neighbouring countries have reached a critical point. No ceasefire has been announced so far, and regional as well as international observers are closely monitoring the rapidly evolving situation.
