In a bid to promote reading habits and enhance digital literacy among students, Raghunath Girls Post Graduate College (R.G.P.G. College), Meerut, successfully organised a “Student Library Enrichment Program.”
The event, held under the guidance of Principal Prof. Nivedita Malik, was jointly organised by the college’s Library Committee and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). The session was coordinated by Dr Shailja, Dr Upasana Devi, and Mrs Anamika.
Hands-On Learning About Library Systems
During the program, students were introduced to various aspects of library functioning, from book cataloguing and computer-based searches to the issue-return process and access to digital resources such as INFLIBNET, DELNET, and Alice.
They also explored rare book collections, scanned archives, and special sections like the Indian Knowledge Tradition Corner, Competition Books Section, Career Corner, and Vacancy Display Board.
Dr Upasana Devi highlighted the value of books related to India’s traditional knowledge systems, encouraging students to reconnect with cultural and literary heritage.
Digital Access and Modern Facilities
Students were familiarised with the library’s extended facilities, including photocopy services, computer-based study zones, reading rooms, and a dedicated journal section.
Librarian Sanmek Kumar conducted a practical demonstration, explaining how students can efficiently use these amenities to enhance their academic research.
The enrichment program was held over two days, divided department-wise. On Wednesday, students from B.A. (all years) and M.A. (first and final year) participated in the session.

Encouraging a Culture of Reading
Prof. Anjula Rajvanshi, in charge of the Library Committee, motivated students to make regular library visits part of their study routine. She emphasised that “books remain the most reliable companions of academic growth, especially when paired with digital access tools.”
The event also saw the presence of Prof. Sonika Chaudhary (IQAC Coordinator), Dr Geeta Rani (NAAC Coordinator), Prof. Mamta Upadhyay, Dr Priyanka Yadav, Mrs Priyanka, Dr Upasana, Mrs Anamika, Dr Jyotsna Gaur, and faculty members from various departments.
Bridging Traditional and Digital Learning
The program not only revived student interest in traditional reading but also encouraged them to integrate digital platforms into their learning process. By combining cultural awareness with modern technology, Raghunath Girls P.G. College continues to strengthen its reputation as a centre of academic excellence and innovation in Meerut.
