Iran Says ‘Ready for War’ as Tensions Escalate After Trump’s 25% Tariff Threat

By: The Trek News Desk

Tensions between Iran and the United States have intensified once again after US President Donald Trump announced a sweeping 25 per cent tariff on countries maintaining trade relations with Tehran. In response, Iran has declared that it is fully prepared for any military confrontation.

On Monday, Trump stated via social media that a 25% import duty would be imposed with immediate effect on goods coming from nations that continue commercial dealings with Iran. However, he did not clarify what specific activities would qualify as “doing business” with the Islamic Republic.

Nationwide Protests Enter Third Week

Meanwhile, large-scale anti-government protests across Iran have entered their third consecutive week. Human rights groups report a sharp rise in casualties and arrests as security forces continue to crack down on demonstrators.

According to the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), at least 600 people have been killed since the unrest began, while more than 10,600 individuals have been arrested nationwide. Independent verification of these figures remains unavailable.

Trump Claims Iran Seeking Talks

Trump has also claimed that Tehran is interested in negotiating with Washington. His remarks came shortly after he warned of possible military action against Iran and strongly criticised the government’s response to the protests.

US media reports suggest that the administration is reviewing multiple response options, including military measures, cyber operations, intensified sanctions, and steps aimed at helping Iranian protesters maintain internet access.

Iran Warns Against US Intervention

Iranian officials have issued strong warnings against any American intervention. Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf stated that any attack on Iran would result in US military bases, naval assets, and Israel being considered “legitimate targets.”
