Fresh Russian attacks on Ukraine early Saturday resulted in the deaths of at least six people, according to Ukrainian officials. Authorities initially reported five fatalities, but the number was later revised upward as rescue teams continued their operations.
In the Kharkiv region, an apartment building was severely damaged in the strikes. Emergency workers recovered the bodies of five victims from the debris of the residential structure, which officials said was almost destroyed after the attack.
Oleg Synegubov, head of the regional military administration, stated that rescue teams were still searching through the rubble for survivors. He said there are fears that as many as 10 people, including a child, could still be trapped beneath the collapsed five-storey building.
Another casualty was reported in the Dnipro region, where one person lost their life during the strikes.
Following the attacks, NATO member Poland took precautionary measures by deploying military aircraft. Poland’s Armed Forces Operational Command announced on the social media platform X that its military aviation had been activated due to Russian missile strikes targeting Ukrainian territory.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian authorities issued a nationwide air raid alert, urging citizens to remain vigilant amid the escalating situation.
In a separate incident in the city of Chuhuiv in the Kharkiv region, a residential house was reportedly hit in a suspected Russian drone attack. According to Mayor Halyna Minaeva, two people were injured in the strike.
With repeated attacks continuing across several regions, the security situation in Ukraine remains tense as rescue and emergency operations are still underway.
