Even as American and Ukrainian negotiators entered the third day of high-level peace discussions in Florida, Russia carried out one of the most extensive and deadly overnight aerial assaults of the war, striking multiple regions across Ukraine and plunging several areas into darkness.
Kyiv Accuses Moscow of “Crushing Peace Efforts”
Ukraine’s foreign minister Andrii Sybiha condemned the massive barrage of drones and missiles, saying it exposes Moscow’s unwillingness to engage seriously in the ongoing peace process.
According to Sybiha, the scale of the attack underscores the urgency for Ukraine’s allies to strengthen their defence capabilities and increase pressure on Russia, especially through measures such as approving the use of frozen Russian assets.
The statement came just days after Russian President Vladimir Putin hosted U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner in Moscow to discuss diplomatic options for ending the conflict.
29 Sites Hit, 8 Regions Lose Power
Ukraine’s emergency services reported three injuries in the Kyiv region, while widespread strikes on critical energy infrastructure left eight regions without electricity.
The state railway operator, Ukrzaliznytsia, cancelled several train services near Kyiv and in Chernihiv after a key railway junction was targeted during the assault.
Scale of Attack: 704 Aerial Weapons Launched
Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia launched a staggering-
- 653 combat drones, and
- 51 missiles, including 17 ballistic missiles,
over the course of the night, totalling 704 aerial weapons, making it the fourth-largest nighttime attack since the war began.
According to preliminary assessments, Ukrainian forces-
- intercepted 585 drones, and
- neutralised 30 missiles,
Yet strikes were still recorded in 29 locations, with debris causing additional damage in several areas.
Critical Talks Continue in Florida: “Progress Depends on Russia’s Intentions”
U.S. and Ukrainian negotiators confirmed they would continue discussions for a third consecutive day at the Shell Bay Club in Hallandale Beach, an upscale property owned by Witkoff’s development group.
Key members of the delegation include:
- Steve Witkoff (U.S.)
- Jared Kushner (U.S.)
- Rustem Umerov (Ukraine)
- Andriy Hnatov (Ukraine)
Officials on both sides described the ongoing discussions as “measured,” noting that any meaningful breakthrough would ultimately depend on Russia’s willingness to commit to long-term peace.

Putin: Talks Were “Necessary,” But Certain Proposals Unacceptable
Following a five-hour meeting in Moscow earlier this week, Putin said the dialogue with U.S. envoys was “necessary and useful,” but stressed that several aspects of the American peace proposal could not be accepted by Russia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has directed his delegation in Florida to seek a full briefing from the U.S. side on what transpired during the Kremlin talks, particularly regarding the points Moscow rejected.
