The United States has intensified its stance against Iran, with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stating that the economic blockade on Iranian ports will remain firmly in place. He reinforced the position earlier outlined by US President Donald Trump, signalling no immediate relief for Tehran.
In a statement shared on social media, Bessent highlighted that storage facilities at Kharg Island, a critical hub responsible for the majority of Iran’s oil exports, are nearing full capacity. He warned that once these storage limits are reached, Iran may be forced to halt operations at several of its oil wells, potentially disrupting production.
Bessent further emphasised that Washington will continue to pursue a strategy of “maximum economic pressure” aimed at weakening Iran’s ability to generate revenue, transport resources, and access its funds globally.
The remarks come as President Trump recently announced that the ceasefire with Iran would remain in effect until a formal proposal is submitted and negotiations reach a definitive outcome.
Trump has also reiterated his claim that the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz remains under strict blockade, underscoring the continued pressure on Iran.
With tensions still high in the region, the situation remains uncertain, and further developments are likely in the coming days as diplomatic efforts hang in the balance.
