A powerful explosion was reported early Sunday near the United States Embassy in Oslo, the Norwegian capital, prompting an immediate response from security agencies. Authorities quickly deployed a large number of police personnel to the area as a precaution while investigations began.

According to police officials, the blast occurred at around 1 a.m. local time on Sunday (March 8, 2026). The exact cause of the explosion and whether anyone was responsible for it remains unclear at this stage.

In an official statement, the Oslo Police District confirmed that officers are currently examining the incident and are in contact with officials from the U.S. embassy. Police also stated that there have been no reports of injuries so far.

Witnesses in the area said smoke was seen rising near the embassy compound shortly after the explosion. Local media reports indicated that the sound of the blast was loud enough to be heard across nearby neighbourhoods, causing concern among residents.

Meanwhile, the U.S. embassy has not yet issued an official response regarding the incident. The explosion reportedly occurred outside regular working hours, which may have delayed any immediate comment from embassy officials.
