A serious safety incident occurred Wednesday night at LaGuardia Airport, one of the busiest domestic air travel hubs in the U.S., as two Delta regional aircraft collided while taxiing on the runway. The collision left at least one person injured and caused visible damage to both planes.
According to preliminary information confirmed by Air Traffic Control (ATC) audio, the incident happened at approximately 9:56 PM local time. One of the planes was moving toward a gate when it was struck by another Delta jet that had just landed and was taxiing on the same path. The right wing of the arriving aircraft hit the nose section of the stationary plane, causing notable structural damage.
Eyewitness video, allegedly captured from inside a nearby aircraft, surfaced on social media shortly after the incident. The footage shows emergency vehicles with flashing lights surrounding the impacted planes, as well as significant damage to one of the planes’ wings. The windshield of one aircraft was also reported to be damaged during the impact.

Delta Air Lines released an official statement calling the event a “low-speed collision.” The two aircraft involved were:
- Endeavor Air Flight 5047, arriving from Charlotte, North Carolina,
- and Endeavor Air Flight 5155, which was scheduled to depart for Roanoke, Virginia.
Emergency response teams and airport authorities acted promptly following the collision. Air traffic controllers halted ground movement in the area and initiated immediate safety protocols to manage the situation and assess the damage.
LaGuardia Airport, primarily handling short-haul and domestic routes, is known for its heavy traffic and tight runway operations, making any such incident a matter of high concern.
Authorities have launched a full-scale investigation into the crash. Both flight crews are being questioned as part of the internal safety review to determine what led to the mishap — whether it was human error, miscommunication, or procedural lapse.
As of now, no severe injuries have been reported, and operations at LaGuardia have resumed with partial restrictions. More details are expected to emerge as the FAA and Delta’s internal safety teams continue their investigation.
