The second phase of Parliament’s Budget Session is scheduled to resume on Monday (March 9, 2026), and the proceedings are expected to witness intense political confrontation. The session is likely to begin with a debate on a motion seeking the removal of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, which has been brought forward by Opposition members.
The resolution has been listed in the names of Congress MPs Mohammad Jawed, K. Suresh, and Mallu Ravi. According to reports, the proposal has received the backing of 118 Opposition lawmakers, setting the stage for a heated discussion in the lower house.
During the debate on the motion, Speaker Om Birla will not preside over the House proceedings. As the post of Deputy Speaker is currently vacant, the responsibility of conducting the debate may fall to the senior-most member of the panel of presiding officers. BJP MP Jagdambika Pal is expected to chair the session during the discussion.

Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is also scheduled to address the Lok Sabha on Monday regarding the ongoing conflict in West Asia. The government has recently faced criticism from Opposition parties as well as several former Indian diplomats for its perceived silence on the issue.
The Lok Sabha’s list of business released on Sunday evening (March 8) included Jaishankar’s statement on “The Situation in West Asia.” He is expected to deliver his remarks shortly before the House takes up the Opposition’s motion against the Speaker.
